ABOUT US
What is What’s the Story?
“What’s the Story” is a social justice action program under the direction of Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf Teachers Network that encourages middle school and high school students to get involved in the greater Vermont community. Small student-led teams conduct research and interviews concerning the topic they choose to get involved in, and the final project in the course is a documentary showcasing what the students have learned. This documentary answers the question of, “What’s the story?” and informs the viewer about the specific struggles their community is facing.
What is our project?
Three teenagers -Ella, Kaitlin, and Bernice - created a film about foster care. We explore not only the difficult conditions that cause children to enter the foster care system, but also how relationships with these children make all the difference. Foster parents have a special bond with the children they foster, especially if they decide to adopt, but our project aims to show that friendships and mentorships are just as important. By creating an informative documentary that clarifies the many ways community members can give back, we hope to attract a larger audience willing to help children in need.
